Move over stuffed lobsters and Motif #1 snowglobes — there’s a new souvenir in town. Unveiled last week in a soft-launch no one authorized, the Cape Annimals™ have taken over the tourist economy with all the swagger of a pop-up gallery and none of the permits.
The launch lineup includes a raccoon with a mysterious medallion, a seagull in sunglasses, and a haddock whose expression can only be described as “deeply Gloucester.” According to the anonymous creators — believed to be operating out of a basement in Lanesville — the plush trio “captures the soul of Cape Ann: scrappy, scenic, and kind of fed up.”
Early demand has been high, especially among children, tourists, a number of city councilors.
