Shockwaves were sent through the Gloucester mayoral race early Wednesday on Stacy Boulevard when Mayor Greg Verga, armed with a well-worn skateboard and surprising core strength, executed a flawless kickflip over the open span of the Blynman Bridge on his way to City Hall.
The mayor’s office released no formal comment, but Verga later posted to social media: “Sometimes leadership means flipping over the problems in your path. #voteforverga.” The caption was accompanied by a slow-mo video of the stunt, set inexplicably to a bass guitar cover of Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone.
“I’m just relieved this is the weirdest thing happening in Gloucester right now,” said onlooker Lynda Carbone, sipping a Dunks iced regular. “Like, let’s just let this be the headline for a bit. Please.”
