What was meant to be a proud moment of municipal remembrance turned into a civic mystery late Wednesday after the official portrait of former Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken was discovered missing from its easel upon its unveiling at City Hall. In its place was a handwritten note in the frame that read, “Thanks! -Carmen.”
“It’s a real shame,” said Director of Municipal Events Sam Guine. “But maybe we should have seen this coming when Rockpella insisted on playing at the event.”
Sources say that a woman in a red hat and red trenchcoat was seen fleeing City Hall. Gloucester Police announced they are launching a full investigation and are “actively seeking three clever gumshoes with experience in global geography and cartoon espionage” to assist.
